I know the reason for my love. Let me be, Let me be tender, Let me make mistakes. I know the reason for my love. Show me the bones! Show me the history! Show me the foundation to this house. Hot and cold, keep the tap running! Easy love like water. This time alone has prepared me to know what I want and how I want it. Our love - a wild poetry - in a 6th floor walk-up.

Shadow Side 02:58
The moon apparent in a sunlit sky. The moon apparent; touch my shadow side. Move me - you crush me - Move me. I hope to count my blessings, obscure the sun from my sight, reveal soul desire and impulse undress in the dark of the light. Move me - you crush me - Move me. I hope to count my blessings, obscure the sun from my sight, reveal soul desire and impulse undress in the dark of the light. Give the people what they want, What they want is beauty!
3.
Cupid – Cupid, come down and kiss me! A feminine curve, the tip of my lip to your hip. How can I entice you, my beauty queen boy? Devotion. Devotion. Devotion. Does sacrifice or indulgence make for better lovers? Blinded by night, nothing is forgiven. Cupid – Cupid, come down and kiss me! Can I keep you long enough to say your mine? Mine. How can I entice you, my beauty queen boy? Devotion. Devotion. Devotion. It’s a sweetness.

about

Pitchfork: "Brooklyn-based P.E. don’t merely play the notes on The Reason for My Love as much as they barrel right through them. The quintet refines their post-punk impulses on their 2020 debut Person and transforms them into a body-moving EP... Sensuality suits them well." [Great Records You May Have Missed Autumn 2021]

Brooklyn Vegan: "The new songs here are the band's most song-like creations yet. And best."

The Guardian: "One of the most unfairly overlooked songs of 2021... Like some avant-garde ear worm, the falling-apart sound in the song oddly coheres." [The best songs of 2021 … that you haven’t heard]

“The last live show in Brooklyn.” Trans-Pecos was over capacity, and people spilled onto the patio between bands. First hummm, then bodies pressed closely together inside for P.E. 's record-release show with Gauche (DC) and Macula Dog (NYC) supporting. Only a few questioned the safety of it all… out loud. SXSW was still “on.” There was no talk of masks, social distancing, or quarantines. Amongst close friends and perfect strangers, P.E. celebrated their debut album Person on March 6th, 2020, mere days before the planet shut down.

Within a month, scattered between New York, New Hampshire and Minnesota, P.E. started sharing new song sketches. Jonathan Schenke sent over some preliminary experiments – “demos” inspired by practice recordings, improv, and sound checks. Bob Jones crafted beats in his newly-built hardware-based home-studio Zo City. Jonny Campolo shared field recordings and performances on his baby grand piano. Ben Jaffe pedaled to Central Park to record his horn under his favorite bridges. Veronica Torres tested different microphones in each room of her house, her lyrics reflecting the rapidly changing reality in real time. More live takes, more overdubs, more new ideas. Back and forth, touch and go, inside and out.

With over two dozen songs started remotely, P.E. convened at Jonathan Schenke’s Studio Windows in February 2021 to cultivate their new ideas. Veronica, having swapped her New York ID for Minnesota, drove from Minneapolis with three notebooks filled with lyrics, writing on the road like always. The “let’s-see-what-sticks'' attitude of their formative years was thrown out the window; P.E. had left “all-improv” behind. What was once a care-free tell-all turned fluorescent.

The Reason For My Love EP is the first taste from this fertile creative period. Inspired by the classic 12” EPs of their youth, P.E. bring three new songs to the dance floor, backed by two extended remixes, one by Xiu Xiu and another by the band. These are songs of love, beauty, and devotion to make you sweat.
